Learning Photoshop

Big Star's Farewell Performance at the Levitt Shell

Alex Chilton died in March, but Big Star lived on until Saturday night at the Levitt Shell in midtown Memphis.  This was most likely the last Big Star show there will ever be, and a few hundred people showed up in Overton Park to take part in it.  It was an unusual evening, and we all realized that we were witnessing something that we would never see again.

Reaching Nigeria Through Literature and

It's that time of year again, when I'm teaching Things Fall Apart to my high school students.  Things Fall Apart is the unforgettable story of Okonkwo, a "strong man" living in Nigeria on the eve of the arrival of British missionaries.  This is the fourth time I have taught this book, but this year I wanted to do something a little more meaningful, so I used to connect me with a real Nigerian who could use a hand.
