Vanya Returns!

This is Vanya, who ran away from home three weeks ago.  We tried and tried to find her, but eventually gave up hope that we'd ever see her again.  And then, this morning, she came home.

Vanya is seven years old, and for the last few months she's been living with my parents while my wife and I try to sell our house.  When she escaped at the beginning of November, we had high hopes that she would soon come back home or someone would find her and call the number on her tag.  But then the weather turned cold and wet and no one called and we began to realize that this situation didn't look too promising for an older cat who is used to cozy nights indoors.

And then, today, she came back!  She had lost two pounds (that's 22% of her body weight) and offered no explanation for her absence, but she looked remarkably healthy.  We still don't know where she was for the last 21 days or how she survived, but it turns out that she's a lot tougher than we thought she was.

Good work, Vanya.

  1. Glad to see a happy ending. And great picture by the way.

  2. So cool! Right in time for Thanksgiving. Give that cat some turkey.

  3. When I was a girl, our cat, Sargent Miller, ran away. We lived way out in the country, and although Sarge was accustomed to living in the "wild" and being an outdoor cat, we assumed he met his end thanks to a fox or coyote or the like. He disappeared around Halloween. During Christmas break, we heard meager meows outside the family room door. Upon inspection, we found an emaciated, earless, tailless Sargent Miller. He was probably 7 when he "ran away" and went on to live another 10 years. If this is any indication, Vanya will be part of the family for a long time!

  4. OMG! I love cats so much! :)
