A New Version of "Party in the USA"

This year, I'm thankful for Miley Cyrus

I didn't really know "Party in the USA" until recently, when my students and I were passing around a guitar and one of them asked if I could play it.  A quick google search turned up some (incorrect) chords, I pulled up the video on youtube, and we all had a laugh as we made our way through the song.
The song was still stuck in my head when I came home that day, and I asked Renee for help.  The song really is a lot tricker than it sounds, and it's deceptively fast.  We were figuring out the nuances and the correct changes, and Renee was singing about "shaking my hips like yeah," when it suddenly hit me: this is one catchy little song!  And I was man enough to admit it!  There was only one choice; we had to record our own version.

So here you go.  A little Thanksgiving treat for all of you.

(And if you really liked it, you can download it here.  Also, you can check out our version of "Every Night," by Paul McCartney, of "Hot Rod," by the Collins kids, both of which we recorded many years ago.)

  1. Just listened to this now--love it when the electric guitar comes in. Renee's vocal perfectly expresses wide-eyed innocence countered with experience. You guys rock.

  2. Aw, shucks. Thanks for the support. I wonder what grade Ben Folds would give it.
